I'm trying to find a movie, and have tried the Imdb and wikipedia but got nowhere. It's about a working-class girl who wants to meet a rich uptown guy, and deliberately crashes her car into his to get to know him. He's engaged, and goes to the store where she works to buy his fiancée a valuable but dull necklace, which the heroine secretly exchanges for a trendier one that the fiancée looks down on as tacky. Eventually, they start dating and she introduces him to another side of life, like listening to Tom Petty (whom she loves). He asks her to a posh event, and she buys an elegant dress for the occasion, but her dad gives her a dress as a surprise. Her dad's gift is horrendously unsuitable, but she gamely wears it so as not to hurt his feelings, which leads the rich guy's friends to make fun of her. They break up eventually, but in the end he goes to the school where she works and they reunite. Whew! I'd just like to see it again, even though it was schmaltzy!
