I have a Kenmore washer and have a problem of water backing up in the drain pipe. It seems that it drains too quickly and thus the overflow. I the drain pipe comes out of the laundry room floor and there is also a drain on the floor. Could I add on to the drain hose to possibly slow the flow down? Any help is appreciated. THANKS

Newer machines pump to the drain faster than old ones. Your drain is probably slowly plugging up with soap residue, grease and dirt. Try rodding with a cutter large enough to scrap the sides of the pipe, not just poke a hole in the junk. Also flush with lots of clean water attached to a garden hoes. You can buy a device at the hardware store that fits on the hose. It gets inserted into the pipe. When you start the hose this device expands like a hard rubber ballon againist the insides of the pipe, about $12.

Over two years ago I purchased a new Kenmore washer with a drain overflow problem. The old washer (only 5 years old) drained fine. Our drain pipe was 2 inches. We thought it was a clogged drain, but it wasn't. We had to temporarily have the gray water exit through the window. Yesterday it dawned on me that the old washer drain hose had a hard plastic "U" where it went into the wall drain pipe; the new hose did not. I went to the store and purchased a new hose with a "U" in the end. Evidently, besides helping the hose stay in the drain pipe, the "U" slows down the waterflow. PROBLEM SOLVED!
