Dear Ask Community

My girlfriend and I have been going out for seven and a half months. Our relationship did have some bumps along the way but it always worked out. I really love her. I was really happy with our relationship but out of nowhere she begins saying weird things. We were casually texting and everything seemed fine but then she says "I can't hang out with you for a while" I ask her why not and she tells me "stop it" and then I ask her "stop what?" and she then asks me to insult her, this genuinely puzzled me and I asked "I would never insult you, ill feel horrible" (I only insult her when it's obvious I'm joking). And then she says I need a break. What could this mean? Please help.

I really want to stay with this girl but I don't know whether this is temprorary or she's breaking up with me.

P.S. I think she wanted me to insult her so she had a motive to break up - just my theory, but I could just be thinking that because I'm upset about this sudden break.

She also asked me not to talk to her for a few weeks, should I?

Seriously, if she's asking for a "break" after a few months, then there really isn't any hope for anything long term and meaningful.

Typically when someone asks for a break, it's the "easy way out" tactic. They want to break up with you, but don't have the will to actually do it. Now this isn't always the case, but the majority of the time it is.

Right now I'd start moving on, if you sit around and hope she comes back and doesn't then you're in for a heartbreak. Just move on, find someone new, someone better. You might not think there's anyone better right now but there is.
