I am trying to have a new bathroom installed in an antique house. The clearance betwee the ceiling below and the floor is about 3". My plumber is telling me I have to raise the floor so he has room to put in the tub trap. Is there any other way to do this so I don't have to have a 2inch step up in the middle of my bath?

Tough call! I don't like to platform fixtures either. Here's what I would do, First off I'd check the clearance with the trap raiser as short as I could make it and as tight against the tub connect bas it would go. It may just clear the ceiling. If it doesn't clear I'd let the bell of the trap end a bit below the ceiling line. To me that would be better then building a platform and you can always point it out as a conversion piece, And your thoughts? Tom
