View Full Version : How do I stop my Maytag refrigerator from making ice?

Our Maytag keeps making ice. I've tried reconnecting the metal arm. Cleared all ice from the maker. The metal arm doesn't seem to stay up in the "stop" position. We forgot to take the ice out and woke up to a cascade of ice in the freezer. We are leaving for vacation soon. Is there a disconnect?

You have to wait for the arm to be down before lifting it if this doesn't work there is a water connection under your sink the safest way is to close the valve it will stop the water from coming to your ice maker

Remove end cap and re-attach metal arm: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8010163/Whirlpool%20%20Icemaker%20Ice%20Dispenser.pdf
Download these instructions.

I do wait for the arm to be down. It just doesn't do the click and stay up. I've tried to reposition the arm but it just won't stay up like it used to. So far, I may just have to turn the water off.

You need to look inside by removing plastic end cap on ice maker. It's a simple fix.
