View Full Version : What could cause a Daschund to favour her bottom

I have an 8 yr old miniature daschund who is a little overweight but otherwise very healthy. Donna keeps favouring her bottom i.e. fairly often, when getting up to walk somewhere, she stops and attempts to reach her bottom with her mouth - which she can't -and then walks on again. Her bottom is worrying her. We have taken her to our Vet who thought she may need more roughage in her diet. This hasn't helped. She has been dewormed. Any ideas or suggestions?

Did you check back with the vet? Had he emptied her anal glands? I think groomers will for much less.

I do hope you are working on her weight. Dachshunds develop back trouble all too soon without the burden of excess weight.

Thank you so much for the advice - took her back to the Vet who cleared her anal glands and she is absolutely fine.

Thanks for the report. The vet may have hoped more roughage would cause the glands to empty. When it didn't fix the problem, he reverted to emptying them himself.
