My mom and dad has been raising her 6 year old grandson since he was 2 he just turned 6 in June, my dad passed away June 12th and now its just my mm raising him. She wants to get custody of her grandson. His mother ( my sister) moved away to Arizona ( they were in Georgia at the time she left) with her drug attack boyfriend thy both were on meth, my sister has been sending a notarized letter for the past few years so my parents can enroll him into school. How can my mom get custody without it costing her a arm and a leg she is on 1 income now. She needs to put her grandson on insurance because he wants to play sports? My sister has not talked to her son in years! She just had a baby with her meth head boyfriend. She wants to come to Florida where we now live to visit in March. We are scared she will try and take him and we can't stop her. Can someone please help me try to help my mom. You can also e-mail me at <removed for privacy>

Mom needs to go to her local Family court and apply for guardianship. This should neither be difficult or expensive. With the letters from the mother and proof that the child has been living with the grandmother, the court should have no issue granting her guardianship or even custody.
