View Full Version : Wondering if my constant obsessing is detrimental

I've noticed this recently and it's a little concerning; I'm always obsessing.
I don't mean OCD, sure I like my coloured pens to be in a certain order but if there's a mess I probably caused it. I mean I obsess about things.
When I get into something, it takes over my life.
I think the first thing I got into was Shaman King in year nine (now I'm entering my second year of university, I'll be twenty next month) I would read it, watch it, read fanfictions about it, research everything I could, write my own fanfictions about it, try to get my friends into it and stuff, then it would all suddenly switch off and I'd get into something else, like researching mental disorders.
As I got older it sort of grew up a bit, I got into dinosaur documentaries, then air planes, then philosophy, then different cultures (It's no surprise I'm doing philosophy and international relations). And when I got an Xbox in university it all got so much worse; I'd obsessively play a game but never finish it before a new obsession started again, the next happened to be cats.
Do you know how much your friends can make fun of you because you like cats too much?
Currently I'm obsessed with the Avengers, I even went as far as buying merchandise (which I've been able to stop myself doing before)
These phases last months at a time and I indulge in them too much; they make me ridiculously happy and I don't know why or how, I sometimes avoid doing things with people so I can stay home and read or write stuff to do with my current interest. But it doesn't cut in so much that people who aren't close notice it. I still go to work and stuff, but when I'm at home I don't do anything unless its related to what I'm currently in love with.
I've never obsessed with people; I've been possessive with my friends in the past but I've gotten over that.
I'm starting to wonder if there's something really unhealthy happening here and I've not noticed.

Ok first off if your friends make fun of you then they aren't really friends :| second, its OK to be quite obsessive with things but if its getting into your personal and love life then it will become a problem, until then you're fine, if you're really bothered see a phyicolagist

We all somewhat obsess with things, if it is effecting your life, get counseling.
