How do I replace the filter on a weather maker 8000. I've removed the four screws on the lower cover plate, but it won't release. Does it matter if the unit is on or off?

You can not remove the cover to the fan area while the fan is running, shut it off. Most furnaces have a simple 2x4 box on the side with a switch, try it.
