View Full Version : My daughters stools are always runny

My wee girl will be two next month, she is always doing runny poos in her nappies, she rarely ever does a solid poo.. Is this normal or is she supposed to being doing solid poos? Her diet isn't the best, as she won't eat veg and not much fruit. She eats mostly spaghetti, pasta, mash, bananas, yogurts, fish fingers, toast, porridge, etc

Get more fiber in her diet. P.S why are you giving into her? You can't just let her eat unhealthy. You are the parent at the end of the day you decide what she eats. Trust me she will never starve herself to death if all she has in front of her is veggies she'll eat eventually.

I agree with Gamed. She's 2. You're the mom. If she doesn't want to eat what's put in front of her, then she can go without a meal. Trust me, she'll eat it if she's hungry enough, and she won't starve.
Yes, her poos should be solid, and it does sound like the runny poo is diet related. You know that her diet isn't the best, you said so yourself, so change it. Be the mom.

At 2 years old, its easier to fix this problem. If you wait much longer she will just get more and more stubborn and independent.
Place veggies and fruits in front of her at meal times. Do not let her get up until she eats. If she refuses to eat at meal time, take her down. But no snacks. At the next meal, again, fresh fruits and veggies (fresh ones, not the ones from the previous meal, unless they are not spoiled)
At 2, she will be quick to learn, if she doesn't eat, she will go hungry.
If you wait too long, say, until 5, it will be harder. My sister in law did this. And now, she has a 5 year old who refuses to eat anything, even if you let her go hungry, and it is a constant battle.

I agree that the diet needs to change, but you can "hide" fruits and vegetables in your cooking. Try putting veggies in your spaghetti and pasta. Also, when my boys were young, making funny faces and designs with the foods on the plate helped. I also used cookie cutters to make the sandwiches more appealing. There are great cookbooks available to add healthy foods to children's diets. Jessica Seinfeld has great ideas and cookbooks that show how to add healthy nutrients to your child's diet.

I feel cruel if I left her to starve, I give in cause I don't want her to go hungry, She's my first child and I don't know how I should deal with that situation when she doesn't eat her veg, so I give her something else so she doesn't go hungry, is that wrong?

I never thought about hiding veg in her food, I'll give that a go then, it's hard because she's not even 2 yet and gets so fussy with her foods, I made her chicken with steamed veg and potatoes and she just played with it

Thanks, I don't know how some mums don't give in, It feels I could let her starve if I don't get her something else, I'm so soft and worry too much I guess, but I'll try this and see how it goes :)

I give in cause I don't want her to starve, I feel she will refuse to eat the veg even though she's hungry, she will eat the spuds, bit of chicken but no veg, I can't just force her the veg, doesn't mean she's eats unhealthy.. She just needs veg in her diet..

You can look online for ideas. As I said, Jessica Seinfeld has recipes to hide the veggies. She has a macaroni and cheese recipe that kids love. You shouldn't feel like a bad Mom. You will find ways to add more fruits and vegetables. There may be some she does like, and it will take some work. Please let me know how you do.

There are many over the counter foods that kids love that now have veggies and other nutritious things in them. Kraft mac and cheese now has a line that has veggies in it.
You're not a bad mom. Kids are tough, and I'm sorry if I sounded harsh in my first post. But, you are mom, and you have to find a way to get the food she needs into her body. I've positive you can do it, it's obvious that you love her very much and want the best for her. :)

Here is the mac and cheese recipe I talked about, with hidden squash or cauliflower in it:
Macaroni and Cheese 1 (Jessica Seinfeld author of Deceptively Delicious)
With Butternut Squash or Cauliflower
Prep time: 5 minutes, Total time: 25 minutes
Serves 4
Ingredients
1 1⁄2 cups elbow macaroni
Nonstick cooking spray
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1⁄2 cup nonfat (skim) milk
1⁄2 cup butternut squash or cauliflower purée
1 1⁄2 cups shredded reduced-fat Cheddar cheese (about 8 ounces)
4 oz (almost 1 ⁄4 cup) reduced-fat or nonfat cream cheese
1⁄2 tsp salt
1⁄8 tsp paprika
1⁄8 tsp pepper
Directions
1.Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the macaroni, and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain in a colander.
2.While the macaroni is cooking, coat a large saucepan with cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Add the oil, then the flour, and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture resembles a thick paste but has not browned, 1 to 2 minutes.
3.Add the milk and cook, stirring every now and then, until the mixture begins to thicken, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the vegetable purée, Cheddar, cream cheese, and seasonings, and stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth. Stir in the macaroni and serve warm.

Yes I love her to bits and yes she's tough and does try to get her way A lot, except I go soft when it comes to her food, if she won't eat the veg, I end up making other foods so she doesn't go hungry, thanks for the advice, I really needed it :)

My wee girl adores cake lol, I really didn't know you could put veg in them, I will try that, but I don't want to give her too much cake though, her dinner time meals I will try to focus on more. Going to give some those recipes ago, I really do hope she will like them, I'd be so happy to see her getting veg into her diet and doing solid poos again :) thanks!

She Isn't STARVING!! 1 meal missed won't kill her. Trust me your going to make her suffer 100x more if she doesn't eat healthy. Follow me on this give her the veggies and leave her to eat plain and simple hide all other food. Say this is your meal. She's 2 at this time its easier to correct this. Think with me for a second how is she going to feel at 13 when she's unhealthy and veggies make her gag because she wasn't used to them at a young age. It hurts me inside that I have a little cousin who's mother used to give into her nows she's 15 and its near impossible for her to change her diet now I've tried to help her but she's never had a salad or even carrots before so it makes her gag and she goes right back to 0 veggies.
