I told a coworker and my manager about my grandpa having a possible heart attack. One of the other coworkers told her boyfriend who then asked my sister about it being true. Is this a HIPPA violation?

I'm not an expert in this field, but it is my understanding that the HIPAA has to do with what information a person in the medical field can share with another person... I don't think this situation qualifies as that.

It's HIPAA, not HIPPA.

HIPAA concerns the medical profession giving out info without permission OR accessing info without permission.

Are you in the medical profession?

Have I got this right - you told a coworker; the coworkers told the manager; the manager told another coworker; that coworker told her boyfriend; that boyfriend told your sister?

Not even remotely. It's grapevine gossip, in office or out, and has nothing to do with you, or transmittal of your medical information.
PS: It's HIPAA, not HIPPA.

I'm sorry about your Grandfather~
You don't mention the type of business you are in... my guess is it's not Health Care or any related profession (Insurance billing, etc.) where the HIPAA laws would be applicable.
No, it's gossip~not a HIPAA violation.

No, first you told someone, next it is not medical records, it is a possible death in family

Sorry why do you even care if ti was ? What did you plan to do if it was ?
