My girlfriend moved in with me a couple years ago. My jack, who usually barks and snaps at strangers, immediately took to her at first meet. Over time he has grown very close to her. I've had my dog 4yrsloves before I met my girlfriend. I usually work 60+ hrs a week and my girlfriend is a student and is home most of the time. Over time it seems like he doesn't love me anymore and only wants to be with her. He still obeys me and responds to all my commands, in fact more so than my gm's. However, when it's time to go to bed he doesn't want to sleep against me any more. He'd much rather sleep against her. When we're alone he will sit on the couch with me but not next to me. He refuses to sit with the both of us together on the couch. But he will immediately sit next to her if I get up off the couch. He also gets agitated when we kiss goodbye. I've never beat my dog but I have disciplined him by squeezing his butt. Maybe I squeezed too hard once or twice but never have struck him. I just feel saddened, like I've lost my best friend and angry or jealous like my girlfriend stole my best friend. I miss snuggling with him and sleeping next to him. And it hurts cause he'd rather do all those things with her now.

She spends more time with him. Dogs are pack animals, and love to be with their pack. They don't really like being alone. You're gone 60 hours a week, she's there all the time. She's become his pack.

He still cares for you, she just gives him more time and attention.

Don't be jealous about this. Be happy that he has someone that cares for him during the day, and keeps him from being lonely. This is a good thing.

You know the saying "if you love something set it free". Well let him be free to love both of you. Jealousy is an ugly thing.
