The sound won't work on my RCA TV setting but it will on my VID2 for my WII game system. I tried unplugging it overnight but that didn't work. We bought this TV in 2012. It's a 42 in flatscreen.

When you say "tv setting" to you mean on the "TV" input? Are you using a cable/satellite box or do you have the cable/antenna line connected directly to the TV? Also, do you use a sound system (even if only for the Wii)?

If you use the TV speakers for everything and they work for the Wii, then this eliminates the speakers themselves as the issue. It is also unlikely (thought not impossible) that it could still be the TV itself.

Please provide us the details of what other equipment you have and how they are connected along with makes and models.

We are using a satellite along with a dvd player hooked in with it.
