Recently backed into a car we gave them our registration info but they called saying they want cash and we keep telling them our insurance covers it but they said they don't want to go through that process . I'm guessing he isn't insured and the car isn't registered because he doesn't cops involved . I'm not paying cash if my insurance covers it and if he isn't insured and car isn't registered what can happen if I don't pay cash

Ignore them and contact your auto insurance agent to report the accident. That's why you pay for insurance. Otherwise, you may end up in a huge legal mess.

You turn the accident over to your insurance company to handle and you stop dealing with him. Your company will take it from there.

Unless the car not being insured and registered is what caused the accident it doesn't matter. You did the damage. You are responsible.

That's why you have insurance.

Report it anyway. Give the agent as much info as you know -- time, date, place, description, the facts of the accident, etc. I say don't pay anything.

What? He's calling you but you don't have any identifying information on him? You report the accident to your insurance company. They then have a record. He looks to you for damages, you're covered.

You don't report it within the number of days required by your State and company and there's NO coverage if he reports it.

I don't know why you asked if you think you have the answers. I'm a liability investigator. I'm telling you how to report an accident to your insurance company.

So take the threats to the Police Department.

They say hindsight is 20:20, but for future reference if ever in an accident you should trade insurance info, meaning you each get the info from the other's insurance card, including name, address, the car's make model and VIN, insurance company name and policy number. Think about it - if you don't know this person's name and you did decide to pay cash how do you know you're giving it to the right person, or even the right car? And absolutely report what you know to your insurance carrier ASAP - hopefully you can provide a few details such as license plate info, make and model of his car, the nature of the damage, etc. If you don't report the accident within a few days of its occurrence it's possible that your insurance company will refuse to cover it, so don't delay.
