I have a amana refrigerator (freezer on top) the fan at the back of the freezer is not working. I have removed the fan and direct wired it to an outlet and it runs fine. Anyone know where I go from here? What controls power to the fan at the back of the freezer. Air in the freezer is cold, but without a fan to circulate the air, its not as good as its supposed to be. Fridge temp is not cold enough without the fan working. My condenser fan is working normal and I cleaned the coils already. Any ideas?

On some refrigerators there is a thermostat that controls the freezer fan. This thermostat is located on the coils and after defrost will not let the fan blow until the temp in the coils drops to 20°. Look for that t-stat and you can either bypass it or replace it. It really is not that important as it only delays the fan a couple of seconds on re-start. Otherwise, you will have to trace the wires supplying power to the fan. You should have a common that may be common with the defrost heater and the other wire should go to a connection with the compressor wire. You will need an ohm meter to find where the wire is broken (with power unplugged). Trace one wire from where it attaches to fan to each prong of the plug with t-stat on. The switched connection may go straight to the thermostat and could be broken there. You will just have to trace it and it should read nearly zero ohms from one end to the other and if not you will have to find out why. Hopefully, it will be in a fan t-stat.
