I started a old water well up last weekend. 90 foot well with 4 inch casing, 60 foot of water in casing. Installed a 1 horsepower jet pump and 36 gallon pressure tank. I lowered the foot valve with ejector attached to 1 1/4 inch & 1 inch pvc. Started the pump up and system ran great for the first 10 minutes, then lost prime. Primed again and no luck, looked down 1 1/4 inch pvc and water was bubbling as if at boiling point. I let it sit overnight to let bubbles settle. Started it up again and it ran for about 10 minutes with 40psi and then lost prime again. Also during this ten minutes it never filled the pressure tank. Maybe someone can shed light on this problem!!

Bryant, it sounds to me like you are simply running out of water.

Also, are you saying that the pump ran for 10 minutes but never delivered any water at all?

If the water level dropped below the footvalve, you will start drawing air which causes loss of prime. Only thing I can think of.

A new pressure tank will take some time before it seems to feel "full". There is air in the tank that will eventually be dissolved into the water after several weeks. That will leave only the air above the bladder, as it should be.

Thank you , would it help to drop the foot valve deeper?
