For about 8 months now my smell has changed. Everything smells like wet/dirty dog. I do have an abcess in the root channel of one of my teeth. The dentist has given me courses of anti-biotics, which clears it for a while then the abcess re occurs, root channel treatments have also not helped. I will have to have the nerve cut out where the infection keeps re occurring. The bad smells are the worst though, could this be caused from the infection?

Yes, the odour is caused by rot of course, but I don't know why your dentist hasn't insisted on dealing with it before now. That tooth has to be dealt with soon before other problems occur.

I will have to have the tooth removed but my dentist assures me that the infection is in the nerve cavity and will not spread elsewhere. I had hoped that anti-biotics would solve the problem... I will need to have something done about it I just never thought that this was the reason behind what I am smelling! Ignorance!! Thank you for your comment!

If the infection grows when the antibiotic is not strong enough; the pain will increase because the infection is wanting a way out.

This can lead to other serious health issues besides the breath

Yes, once infection, or sepsis, gets in the bloodstream, cardiac arrest can happen.
