Try dropping and cleaning the pan and magnet, changing the filter, and refilling with Mercon V--I recommend Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF dramatically improves upshifts and downshifts, in extreme heat or extreme cold. Ford recommends performing this procedure every 30,000 miles. This is the procedure I use on my 2000 Ford Taurus, with over 145,000 miles on it.
