My dog swallowed 4 chicken bones last night, and I don't want to tell my parents because then they might get mad. She threw up yesterday and has been having diarrhea. This morning I fed her bread and water. Is there anything else I can do?

Yeah... tell your parents.

Or will you wait until the dog dies and it would be your fault because you said nothing. They might need to take it to the vet.

The bread will do nothing. Those remedies have to be done immediately. Your dog needs to see a vet and you must tell your parents. The dog is in danger from the chicken bones. Please do the right thing for your pet.

Okay, I'm going to give you some advice, and I'm going to be kind.

The major concern when a dog swallows a chicken bone is first, choking (which didn't happen), and then splintering (which could cause a lot of internal damage), and lastly, the bone lodging itself in her stomach.

One remedy (which can help, but isn't a cure all) is cotton balls or bread, but, it needs to be done right after the dog swallows the chicken bones. The reason for cotton balls or bread, is that it wraps around the bones swallowed, and cushions the splinters, hopefully preventing internal damage. It will not prevent choking, or the bone lodging in the dogs body. It's only a cure for one of the possibilities.

Giving the bread or cotton balls hours later, won't help.

If your dog is vomiting the bone may be lodged in her throat. The diarrhea could indicate another issue, or could be related to swallowing the bone, but, most dogs that suffer due to a swallowed bone become constipated. So I question that the diarrhea is related to swallowing the bone.

Fact is, you're a child. You can't take this dog to the vet. You need to tell your parents. If they get mad, then I have to question if you should even have a pet to begin with. They took on this responsibility, and the dog is obviously sick, so it needs to go to the vet.

I won't be harsh, and say that your dog will die, but your dog is having a reaction, and frankly, death is a possibility. The only thing that's happened before she started vomiting and diarrhea, is the chicken bone. So yes, a vet is the only option, which means telling your parents, and doing what's best for your dog.
