I am confused on what I need to do and hope I can get some help. I have a four year old daughter. Her father has always gone back and forth on claiming her as his or not. Two years ago he moved away and has not seen her since. He has not even called since August of that same year. He is not on her birth certificate nad there is no court order of support or visitation. There has never been a DNA test. BUT there was a court date scheduled for a hearing of paternity. He never showed up.I want to know what I need to do so that my husband can adopt her. Is it still very difficult with him not being on the birth certificate or making any legal claim to her?

P.S. I have no idea where he is or any of his family. I have no way to contact him. And before I really go into the adoption thing, I would just simply like to have sole custody. I would like to make sure he cannot ruin her life. Since he has never claimed her, why cany my husbands name just be added to the birth certificate?
