I pressed domestic violence charges on my now ex-boyfriend. I did it mostly out of anger and I no longer want to go on with the charges. I went to court with him and asked for the charges to be dismissed I am not familiar with how the court system works in the State of New York. The judge did mention something about a letter for dismissal has to be written, and I'm not sure if it has to be written by me or the DA. How do I go about doing this and making sure that the charges are dropped?

Why do you care?

If he abused you, don't you want to see him in prison?

But if you really want the charges dropped for an EX, then just tell the DA to drop it and you don't wish to testify.

After that, leave it up to the DA and wash your hands of this EX.

He is no longer your problem.

We used to see this all the time as a police officer, the lady is abused, and calls the police, and then she misses him, goes and bails him out

He says he loves her and is sorry, but he is only sorry he was arrested, and will just do it again and again, and again

In out state ( not NY) you cant, actually the police officer does not care if you want to press charges or not.

And once charges are pressed they can't be droped on domestic for just that reason.

If he is guilty, he needs to go to trial and be punished, that way he may learn not to do it again
