My Huskee, model 690, riding lawn mower, will run only if I spray either into the carb, so the ignition circuit is working. Fuel is getting to the carb bowl entrance, but apparently not to the engine. It must be something downstream of the fuel entering the carb bowl. What is the wire on the bottom of the carb bowl? Is that a solenoid that shuts off fuel flow? Would this be something associated with one of the many "safety switches" on the seat, brake, etc.

It is indeed a fuel shutoff solenoid but should only be connected to the key switch. Check it for voltage with switch in Run position, trace wire.
