On a THIN double 30 amp GE breaker, there is a metal piece protruding out the bottom that prevents it from inserting into panel. Does removing this piece affect the effectiveness of the breaker??

Are you sure the breaker is approved for the panel box? Sounds like the wrong breaker. What brand is the box? What brand is the breaker? Does this breaker have the same classification as the other breakers?

Thank you for your reply. The box is GE and the breaker is a GE. The large double breaker has metal tabs that fit into the box 'horizontal' while the THIN has tabs that fit 'vertical'. The box does allow for either, but does not want to seat tightly.

If THQP breakers are allowed in the panel, it will be listed on the label found on the inside of the panel door, and the label will have a diagram to show exactly which slots can accept the THQP breakers.

Some spaces on the buss may allow that breaker, but as TK mentions, it limits the amount of them.
