I have an ice maker on my Maytag which is not hooked up. It just started sounding like it is trying to come on, runs a few seconds and turns off and then does it again. This happens several times a day.

I have tried the bar both up and down and does it either way.

You may have to lift further up to a detent.
It should stop trying to make Ice when raised.

Why not just hook up the water line? Lifting the line up far enough should cure the problem, but if it's a problem you can unplug it, too.

I though, just hook up the water, but then Ice would overflow.
Drtom, where would they unplug?

Ice would not overflow because you have a container under it and when it gets so full that the bar will not go down the ice maker stops until the ice is used. You should just hook up the water and be done with it. It sure is a nice convenience to have an ice maker. To unplug it you will see a wire with a white covering that plugs into the side of the freezer. Some units have it placed where it is easy to get to in order to unplug it while others do not.
