My central heat unit turns on, the electronic pilot start comes on and then the gas ignites as it starts flowing. It lasts for about 10 seconds or so, then the gas flow just stops. The fan is still running. Then after about 15 seconds the gas ignites again and usually stays on the whole cycle from that point on. What could it be? This lasted all winter like this.

Igniter is bad. Replace it.

dandds, how can the igniter be bad when it is actually igniting the flame? Bad call friend. Great to have you on AMHD, but please do stick to boards you are knowledgeable in. Bad advice on any board makes us all look bad, right?

Deric. This sounds like a dirty flame sensor issue to me. Locate the flame senser, remove it, and clean it with steel wool or fine sand paper, reinstall and see if things don't improve. Very common problem that causes the exact type of operation you described. Please let me know how things work out.
