Hi everyone,

My pilot on my hot water tank keeps going out. I found it out, restarted it, it stayed lit for about 1 minute and went out. The water tank is no more than 5yrs old. It has an auto ingnite on it. Help me

If it has a thermocouple replace it if not call for service.

I agree with hvac1000 it could be your thermocouple.

This sounds like a sealed burner design water heater, thus the piezo electric sparker. I'm going to guess the pilot is getting snuffed out for lack of combustion air. Look around the bottom base and bottom sides for screens that are plugged up with dust.

Some units also have a temperature sensitive link that will melt/trip and allow the combustion air to cut off. That is if it is like northern said.

Another possibility is the pilot flame is weak
And once the main burner starts the pilot flame
Is lifting away from the thermocouple.

If it stays lit for a minute then I'd say the thermocouple is OK and to look elsewear
