The movies is about a man that believes he locked away this boy in the building with no way out so he believs that he killed this boy. It flashes to years later and there is a killer a girl and another man and they all plays a role like someone's Id, ego and super-ego. Then at the end you find our that that the guy is Schizophrenic and all these characters are him and the boy he locked away was in his mind a subconscious him

Thanks but, that still isn't it.. I don't recall a motel in the movie and within the first 10 min he's returning as an older man to the building where he believes he locked a little boy in when he was younger, but he doesn't find a single trace that the boy had ever even been there. And there is absolutely no way for the boy to get out.
