I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I've been emancipated from my parents since I was 17 years old. Been on my own since then. I am now 21 and I'm really trying to go to school for the next school year. I've never been able to receive financial aid because my parents make too much. But, is it possible that I can file as an independent with legal documentation showing that I am emancipated? And if so, where or how can I obtain that information to do so?

Your proof is a copy of the court order that states you were emancipated, You to be emancipated would have filed in family court, had a hearing and hee court would have issued a order, merely get a copy of that court order. You would have needed it to move out, rent a place to live or more.

But also, no I don't think that will help with government grants, they still expect your parents to help, same as a family where they never got emancipated but the parents will still not help.
