Looking for a mid-late 90's movie that is a romantic chick flick that includes a scene where they are laying on rose petals... not "Bed of Roses" (already tried). And I believe it has an unexpected sad ending.

In American Beauty one of the young girls is lying on a bed of roses. Kevin Spacey is the father of this girls friend and he ends up have feelings for her because his marriage is going downhill. He shoots himself in the end. GREAT MOVIE!
