if 10% of a group of people (number of people don't matter) has 1 thing in common and 11% of the same group of people has a different thing in common - what percent of the group has both things in common

to sum it up - 10% has 1 thing in common
11% has 1 thing in common
what percentage has both in common?

I'm not going to e-mail you, but I will give the answer here.

Assuming that both the 'things' are independent.

10% have the first thing in common, and 11% will have the second thing in common.

11% of the 10% will have both things in common

So mathematically this is 0.10*0.11 will have both things in common.

Hope this helps.

I am not positive if this is right but I came up with the answer of 90.90% have both things in common.

I would like to know if this is or is not the right answer??

It isn't, the answer is 0.10*0.11 = 1.1% for the reasons I gave above.
