I stutter while speaking.I am 23yrs old
My mom used to tell me that I had Fits(Epilepsy) when I was 2years old. But after getting treatment for it I am okay till now.no further signs of epilepsy occurred to me.

I have gone through the internet and found out that maybe there is some chance that Neurogenic Stutterer's can be prescribed some medicines.Please correct me if I am wrong.
Can you suggest some medicines for me if there is any!!

No.. as per my parents I was speaking well until the age of 6.. then only I developed stuttering.. even though I got Fits twice under 2yrs

Why some people stutter is poorly understood. The term neurogenic makes it sound a lot simpler than it is. Certainly the answer lies somewhere in neuro-mechanisms. But where?

I should note that while I am trained in psychology and neurology, speech disorders have never been my specialty. My daughter had a terrible stuttering problem, that ranged across the same time span as yours. So my information is mostly experiential although I researched all of the possible causes.

Until such time as the neuro-mechanisms are more completely understood, the brain regions that interplay-and how. It is difficult to understand how any medication could be prescribed with any degree of confidence.

Where did you read of medication for stuttering. I would like to review it.

My daughter attended a speech retraining unit in a Virginia hospital*. Her mother discovered it and not I. Within 2-3 weeks her speech had improved 95% and remains so 3-4 years later. No medication was involved.

ADDED: *It was a clinic located at Eastern Virginia Medical School, not a hospital in-patient program. She stayed off campus and attended daily.

And for most people that stutter, speech therapy is the main way, no magic pills, you train yourself to talk, many methods, I do not prefer one over another. Myself, I still have some S and R issues at times, but spent about 4 years in training myself not to stutter.

You I have been to Speech theraphy 2yrs back, he thought Speak in this way.

Take breath every time before talking and Prolong the first syllable of the word.

It works few time and few times not.

What kind of methods u ar using?

Anyone have idea about Tegretol medicine, it's basically used to control Epilepsy but for guys who had stuttering after Epilepsy it mite be helpful according to the articles I read.

My daughter is now 30. Believe she was 24 when attended. Very severe stuttering at the time.

I was very skeptical yet hopeful for the program. She attended 8 hours each day along with 11 others. After the first week there was a significant improvement. At the end of the program, I believe 3 weeks, she no longer stuttered. She tells me the same for each person in the clinic.

This seems to vary from individual sessions, I had spoken with speech pathologists indicating an ongoing treatment plan of several years.

The cost was less than $4 thousand. No outpatient follow-up

I am a cynical old psychologist that summarily disregards treatment claims from all sources. In this case it performed at or above claims. That is based on personal experience, thereby biased and limited. But worth adding to your list of possibilities.
