I went to get a puppy and found the living conditions terrible so took the last 2. They were a male and a female. They turn 6 months on the 16th of this month. The female came into season (unexpectedly early) 4 days ago. I was told a female can not be spayed until after 6 months so she isn't spayed yet. I've kept them apart but sods law they got together and I caught them "at it" a couple of minutes ago. He was certainly in there but they were not "locked" together and were only together for a very short while... What do I do now and what are the chances of her being impregnated? Please no rude comments regarding pet care and responsibility...

Yes, the male dog can impregnate the female dog, even if they are siblings. Please take them to the vet to be neutered. And thanks for rescuing them in the first place.

Yes it is possible, but seeing as show it has only just happened your safest option is to pop down to your vet and discuss options with them.
6 months, as I'm sure you know is way to young for a litter and is extremely early for her to be coming in season.

There is an injection that can be administered within 48 hours od the mating which can be likened to Plan B for humans, it stop a mating from taking.

There is also the option of spaying now. What breed do you think the puppy is? Desexing after 6 months is really only for large and giant breeds. Smaller breeds tend to mature much faster and can be desexed earlier.

Thank you both for your answers. I actually spoke to a vet Monday morning regarding having her spayed as I was so shocked she had come into season so early, and she told me I can't have her spayed now for 3 months? The mother was a staffordshire bull terrier and the father was a chihuahua. I'm glad I took them both as they are a treasure. The owner eventually put the mother on the street as couldn't be bothered.. I did report this. The dog was picked up by a local warden. Thank you both again.

Emergency spay! Go to a vet who will do it for you

A lot of vets don't like desexing dogs that are in season due to the excess blood, swelling and the fact it is generally a little more difficult.
There is a little more risk involved but a competent vet should have no problem. The risk of spaying now is far less than the risk of a 6 month old carrying a litter of pups to term.

Chihuahua x Staffy, that would certainly be an interesting combination
