I live in a brick townhouse, built in the 30's. I have a neighbor on both sides. We share the wall between the houses, I think there is cinder block between the units.
My neighbor is going to build an addition on their house. In our city, they are allowed to build right up to the property line. She has chosen a shed style roof which will let her build right up to the property line since there is no gutter on that style of roof. The side of the addition will be siding.
My question is, if they build right up to the property line, will that preclude us from building an addition in the future that abuts hers? It seems to me that if we try and build an addition in the future, we will have to make ours set back a couple feet to allow for maintenance of the siding. Would there be a way to turn her wall into a shared wall after the fact?
