We recently discovered that a fitting around a main pipe in our home broke which caused water to leak out of the pipe into the cement blocks of the wall. We discovered this because we notices water coming into the home through the bottom of the walk-out basement doors. At first it looked like it might be coming from the outside so we checked everything- water proofing, drain tiles, footers, nothing was blocked & water proofing in tact. Then we noticed that every time we ran the shower, washing machine or a sink for an extended period time, the water increased. We discovered our main pipe that collects all the water from the house and sends it out to the septic system was where the cracked fitting was located actually inside the cement block wall. This would also include toilet water/sewage. So now we have replaced the part and fixed the water source problem. We also had a company come in and they "fogged" the area with a bacteria killer and then have an air purifier running for 24 hours. My next question is, what do you do about the water in the cemement blocks since there is some sewer water in it (not sure of the amount)? Is our home safe now that we had the sanitation process started? Does it "dry" out? We also noticed something that may be mold and plan to santitize the walls and paint with Kilz. Spoke to the company that used the "fogger" found out that kills everything on, in the wall and the whole surrounding room. Basically everything is sanitized because of that and all we have to do is sand any bubbles in the cement and paint with Kilz. Also make sure when we pour cement back into the hole where the pipe is, we get a good seal around the pipe. So I think I have my answers! Hope this post helps someone else. Thanks!
