A fellow tenant has knowingly filed a false police report (report is vindictiv and made up by plaintiff) naming me as the person who vandalized his car in Los Angeles,CA estimating damages at$300.00. What do I do to defend against this?

Defend against it where? Criminal Court? Bring proof that what was said is not true. When the charge is dismissed, then consider whether it's a false Police Report OR a misunderstanding.

Thanks for response. It's not been decided whether to send it to the D A to file as of yet. I got a copy of the investigative report through someone who knew what was going on as he filed a copy of the report w/our apartment manager. It's a vendective filing. I'm a teacher in the process of renewing her license. I was wondering if there was anything I could do before the police make a decision.

I'd do nothing for fear of making it worse. You could contact an Attorney and see what he/she thinks in the legal "climate" of your town or city - but I think the advice will be the same.

Wait to see if they come talk to you, they will want to talk to you to investigate the "crime" if they do, then hire an attorney to represent you BEFORE you talk to them.
If charged, make NO statements without talking to an attorney.
The police are allowed to lie to you and try to get you to make statements.
If there is not enough evidence, the police will do nothing.
