I live in Rhode Island and I am a felon, my husband is incarcerated and will be incarcerated for at least another 14 years. They will not let me in to visit him. I know of other people who have felony convictions who have been approved to visit their loved ones as long as it is an immediate family member. I have called the warden numerous times to no avail, and today my husband received a letter from the warden stating that I will NEVER be allowed to see him. This is so unjust, They are saying I will not be able to see my husband for 14 years! I know I've made mistakes in my past, but I am complying with all aspects of my probation and have become a productive member of society. I just don't know what else to do.. I don't understand it, because they allowed me in so we could get married but they will not allow me visitation. Can someone please help me, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is he in a Federal prison? In some prisons - and I know Federal prisons - a convicted felon may not visit anyone. I have no idea how you got permissioin to enter the prison and get married.

At any rate - contact a Civil Rights Attorney and ask if your rights (and possibly your husband's) are being violated.

If he is not in Federal prison is he being "punished" for something he has done. All visits have been cancelled? Just yours? Something else?

If you are correct and you are the only convicted felon not allowed to visit with a convicted felon husband and the circumstances are the same an Attorney will JUMP at this!

No he is in State prison, At first they weren't going to allow us to be married but I went through hell just to get the marriage approved, Calling the warden and rehabilitative services and finally they approved us to get married. But now my phone calls are going unanswered.

He is not in any kind of trouble, he can get visits from anyone else on his visiting list regularly, They won't even run a BCI check on me, every time he submits one it is never answered.

I know of one woman in particular who has a criminal record just as bad as mine if not worse, who has been allowed to visit her son. And it clearly states on the DOC website that Immediate family can be approved if they have a felony.

The issue is can be and the Warden is almost the final say inside the prison. You may have to hire an attorney to file an appeal for you to the Board of Prisons.

Also the security level of the inmate can decide what waviers may be allowed, how long he has been in and so on.
