This is not a answer, this is question... I want to change my son last name. His father lives in another state. He just stopped calling months ago and disconnect his phone, He never paid child support and never supported his son in any way. I have no clue of how to contact him and don't know if he is even alive. Since I have no way of contacting him, does that mean that I will never be able to change my sons name since I cannot contact him.

First its not a good idea to piggyback your question on another thread. This can lead to confusion. So I've moved your question to its own thread.

No, it means you have to make a good faith effort to locate him and get his permission. What a good faith effort requires will vary by area {ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. } So it would be better tconsult a local attorney on what you need to do.

However, if you can satisfy the court that you have tried to get his permission and were unable to, the court will probably grant your petition.
