I'm a resident, I have a green card, and I have lived with an american couple for the last 22 years, I'm 42 years old now. They never adopted me. Sadly my american dad, just pass away. My american mother wants to leave some inheritance to me ,however she was told by a lawyer that in order for me to receive the inheritance my mother has to fill out a lot of forms and pay a lot of money... but at the present time we are trying to pay my american dad funeral, so we don't really have money. Can you please tell me who can my mother see or what to do so that I can receive any future inheritance... thanks ! Can I really receive an inheritance even though I'm not a U S citizen?

Keep in mind... his estate has to pay any and all of his debts before anything can pass on to anyone else. THEN if anything is left... the inheratance comes into play.

She needs to find a new attorney. Anyone can leave a bequest to anyone they want. I don't think there is any law that prevents an american from leaving a bequest to a non-american.

ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

If you tell us what state you live in, we can give you the law on wills.

They are lying to you, You may receive the money without paying any fees what so ever.

Are you sue this is for real? This sounds how basic inheritance scams on the internet work.
