I have a 2004 Suzuki Verona with about 79K miles on it. It will completely cut off on me while driving and do it at random... some days a lot... some days not at all. I can place it in park and restart it, it will start, but die as soon as I try to switch gears into drive (it's an automatic). I can keep it on by pressing the gas, but the moment I let go to place it into drive it dies. I normally have to start it in neutral and throw it into Drive for it to go- which I am sure I am tearing up my transmission by doing this constantly. It won't start at all in reverse or any other gear- it won't even turn over. It has a new alternator and battery in it. Also I find it very difficult to put gas in it... it clicks off like it's full though it's not... it even overflow and spooses out.. I have to give it a little at a time which is soooo annoying! Not saying any of this is related, but wanted to give as much back ground and info as possible... I do not know a lot about cars, and I can't afford to take it a shop and let them try every little thing... Any idea as to what it could be? And if I have to get it fixed, where I should start?

I had a simmular issue with my pontiac. Turned tout to be a bad post on the battery. Check to make sure that there is no corrosion and that the cable is tight. That would be a good place to start.

Thoughts:

. Automatic Transmission Gear Position Switch is out of adjustment or needs replacing.

. Check for codes.
