My 7 year old son has a strong, dull pain on the left side of his abdomen, just even with his belly button. He has an ice pack on the front, and it feels better if we press on his back, directly behind the pain. Could a flu that has been going around cause symptoms like this? Appendix is right side, right? Any other ideas? He does not have a fever.

Appendix pain is felt on the left side. If you press on the left and you suddenly let up does it shoot to the right? If it does then get him to a doctor quick. That is a sign of inflamed appendix.
Either way sevier discomfort for a child that young requires a doctors visit but may or may not be an emergency. An apendix is an emergency.

Appendix, kidney issues, and many other possible issues, But yes serious pain needs to be seen soon. Do you have a emergancy care facility or a child doctor that sees patients on emergancy
