I am being given a propane water heater, and need to convert it to natural gas. I see that the converter kit is about 20.00. What should be the approximate charge to have it installed? I know that this depends on where you live, but an estimate would be great.

In Florida you would only need to pay the first half hour at $90.00, Georgia may be $60.00 depending on where you are located. The job is extremely easy to do since you have to replace an orifice and either turn a cap over or replace a spring to change the diaphragm pressure. You only need a small wrench to fit orifice which has a hex head and screws into burner where it blows gas into it. You would also need to adjust the air so that the flame is blue and add air just before flame wants to lift off burner. When you open air valve, the sliding metal piece on burner, loosen set screw, then start with valve closed down some and open until flame starts to lift off burner then reverse to sit flame back down on burner then tighten set screw. That's all there is to it.
