My period is due in about 2 weeks. I had unprotected sex about a week ago. The VERY next day, I noticed that my body felt strange. I had cramping and I felt very bloated as if my period was about to start. I have a child already, so I know what the symptoms of pregnancy are. So yesterday, I took 2 HPT. Both came out positive. Today, I went to the OBGYN and they did a urine test in me which came out negative. I am thinking it is way too early for anything to be determined, but why would the tests that I took both come up positive? I have all the symptoms of being pregnant.. always tired, always thirsty and hungry, bloated, moody, and I just feel pregnant. I don't know what to believe now. Help!

Please don't keep asking the same question over, One question has been deleted and the others merged.

When you did the test at home, was it the firs urine of the morning ? If so, that is normally the best time to test? False positives are rare.

But best choice, wait another couple weeks and test again.

It's very rare to get a positive on a pregnancy test 2 weeks before your period is even due. It's also not possible for you to feel pregnancy symptoms the day after you had sex. You wouldn't even be officially pregnant. In fact, at this point you wouldn't be either. It's only been a week.

I'd wait for your period. If it's late, try another pregnancy test. But at this point I'd say that you are one of those cases where you had a false positive. They do happen. Not as often as a false negative, but they do happen.

Not to say that you aren't pregnant. You could be. I just wouldn't trust any test at this early stage. I'd wait until your period is actually late.

Well I did the first test in the morning, that came out positive, then I did the second one later that day, it still came out positive. I showed my OBGYN the tests and he said that it could possibly be a pregnancy, just too early to tell so he said to take either take another test a few days before my missed period or after I miss it, or he said I could just go back to the hospital and have them exam me. I don't know, but I felt like this twice in my life - where I just have that "I know I'm pregnant" feeling. And both times I was right. First time I felt like this, I ended up being pregnant, now my son is 5. Second time I felt like this, I ended up being pregnant again but I had a miscarriage.

Well either way your only option is to wait. If you are pregnant then that's not going to change in 2 weeks. So wait until your next period. If you miss it, retest, or go back to your doctor for a test.

There's really nothing else we can offer you. We can't say for certain that you're pregnant, anymore than your doctor can.

I know why he's weary. It's just very early to test positive, unless you're further along than you suspect. But then, why didn't the test at the doctors office come back positive.

Faulty tests happen. What sort of test did you use? Did you check the expiration date? Did you follow the directions exactly?

Yes I followed the instructions exactly
The way it said to on the box. And I waited 3 minutes, just like it said. The results actually appeared within about 1-2 minutes. Complete positive. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that it was anything other than positive. And it was a first response hpt..

My only concern is this. The doctors test is much more accurate than a home pregnancy test. That test came back negative.

Again, I'm not saying that you're not pregnant. You very well could be. But until you miss a period, it's really not a certainty.

Home pregnancy tests can be faulty. I've had a few friends that had a false positive with an hpt. Also many that had a false negative.

You'll still have to wait the 2 weeks until your period is due to be sure. Right now it's not a certain thing, and I only say that because of the dates. I can't wrap my head around you getting a positive one week after you had sex, or having pregnancy symptoms the day after sex. That's just not how things work.

If anything, I'd say you're further along than you think. But at 1 week after sex, 2 weeks before your period, a positive pregnancy test is something I would dismiss, just because I know how pregnancy works. It's just not logical.

In other words. No matter how you feel, or what you think, the only way to be sure is to wait until your period is due. If you miss it, test again. If that test is positive, then I'll say congrats. That's really your only option.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your input. I'm really not even in a good position to have another baby which is why I am worried. I just can't understand how I would get 2 positive hpts. I did hear though that the ones the doctor's use aren't as accurate as the hpts. I honestly think I AM pregnant, just WAY too early.

You're welcome.

Jenn, I hope that it works out the way you want it to. Truth is, no one is every financially prepared for a child, unless you're a billionaire. If we all waited until we were ready to have kids, we'd all be too old to have kids. Not saying that teens should strive to get pregnant, but I have to say, I was 27 when I had my first, 31 when I had my second, and I was scared shytless with both, and they were planned. The third (which I lost) was a complete surprise, and had he/she lived, I don't know how we would have made it work. But then again, we made the two we do have work, and that was a crap shoot too.

I have a feeling, based on your posts, that this baby wouldn't be completely bad news. It may not be planned, and you may not be in the best position to for it, but who is? No one ever is.

Keep me posted. Wait the two weeks. If you don't get your period, retest. If it's positive, you do have options. If those options aren't a consideration, well, we're here to help. We can't help financially, or physically, but we can lend an ear.

Either way, please let me know what happens. I hope it works out the way you want. If not, I know you'll make the best of it. :)
