When icemaker is on (bar down) no ice is made and both sides do not cool. Also the is an intermittant buzzing sound that becomes more frequent the longer the icemaker is left on. But, when you put the icemaker bar in the OFF position there is no buzzing and the frig and freezer slowly cool back down.

There should be no relation to these two actions unless there is a short somewhere. The first thing you need to do is to clean the coils under the unit by removing rear cover (after unplugging refrig.). Wash out the coils with a good spray soap and a sprayer on a water hose. You won't need much water. Then vacuum up water with wet-vac. Let it dry out, but make sure to clean fan, too. Make sure vent in rear cover is clear of all dirt and then replace; it will not run without cover in place without overheating and failing. Next, remove icemaker and clean plug on male and female sides with a good contact cleaner and toothbrush. Run it after reassembling it and see if it works better.
