Hehe, 13 views and no answers. I went  when I learned who it is. If no one comes up with it, I'll show him from 40 years ago.

(and then even you youngsters will probably know who it is :p )

how about a Realm of Worldly Influence? Politics? Music? I'm guessing he was a sixties hippy? Guessing music or cinema if the young'uns would know him...

well after you let this kick around the forum more how about a hint of some sort. Maybe a Hobbit-style riddle just to really get us in circles. =)

Yes to all 3 if you count TV as cinema.

I've racked my brain for a killer clue, but anything I think of is not a clue but a giveaway... but here is one that might be clever:

Platyrrhini

PS. Despite the corniness of the group that made him famous, he is quite the musical genious, really.

RickJ
Feb 21, 2007, 09:36 AM
It's Michael Nesmith of the Monkees.

Never heard of the Monkees! :p

They had a TV show that still plays on some channels. And he's still big behind the music scenes with many bands.

I wish I had gotten back to this thread earlier today. After the second picture I knew it was him.

Ahhh. I hate to admit it but when I was a kid I had a Monkees lunchbox. I LOVED Mike Nesmith. Also Peter Tork but he hasn't held up that well. :p

Yes Rick he is a very, very smart guy. I am sure you probably know this bit of trivia but I am going to put it out there anyway. Did any of you know that his mother created "White out"? You know, that liquid paper correction fluid. I am definitely dating myself here. We used it on typewritten letters and stuff like that. Since we have computers now, I am guessing the need has decreased a bit. But, because of his mother, his family is quite wealthy. Anyone know if he is married? Anyone know where I can find him? Do you think he would go for a woman who is age appropriate for him? :p

Actually I DID know that!

I taught in the chemistry dept at a university, and chemists always keep research notes in lab notebooks, often with carbon copy second pages. The big rule for proper use of the notebook is never obliterate anything. Make a mistake? OK. Single line through it. Never scratch it out. NEVER. Patents are lost that way.

Well... (yes there is a connection here)... every now and then we'd run into a student who not only violated this rule, but would use white out on the pages to cover up the mistake. Nothing like using white out on a blue or yellow carbon copy to "hide" the mistake.

So (heres the connection for those still reading) a guy I worked with, when teaching students how to use the notebooks, would go into a rant. He was a stickler for proper notebook use, and would go into a rage whenever he saw white out on the pages, stating that if a time machine was ever invented he would travel back in time and kill (yes, kill) Nesmeth's mother before she could invent "the Devil's Fluid".

OK. Maybe you had to be there.

But I knew it too, ruby. You, me, and a crazy chemist.

LMAO kp. I would have loved to have seen this guy ranting.

Well I'll be a Monkeys uncle! Early day, production company, boy band crappola. Blatent commercialism at it's worst. Neil Diamond and Tommy Boyce wrote all the songs and studio muscians recorded it. Kind of like the Spice Girls or Milie Vanillie crapola. Thanks for the blast from the past Rick. I remember the schtick Micky Dolenz would do like James Brown, being lead off the stage with a cape around him as if he were having a break down. My GOD man, is nothing sacred!? I bet James Brown don't stink half as bad right now as the Monkeys did back then!
