This morning I had a VERY bad period. It soaked through one pad. The thing is; I'm scared to use a tampon. I haven't been swimming for ages when my period is due. My period normally lasts one week or more. It's worrying me. What's happening? Should I use a tampon? Why is my period lasting so long? Help :(

I saw in a previous post that you are 13. It is very common for teenagers to have irregular periods for several years, especially if they have recently started having them. It is also common for women to have a heavier period than normal every so often. If your period continues on like this for a few months, and lasts longer than 7-10 days, talk to your doctor about options you have to help better control it. As for the tampon, many women choose not to use tampons for a variety of reasons. I personally, like the benefit of using tampons. For a heavier flow, I don't know that tampons would work any better or worse Than a pad anyway. What is it that frightens you about the use? Has anyone properly discussed the use of feminine hygiene products with you?

I realize you can't speak to your mother about your need to wear a bra. Can you talk to her about this problem? That's a good starting place.

There are all mother / daughter talks, why are you not talking to her about this. This is normal human function.

But as noted flows vary and some will be heavy and others light. Some more cramps , others not. Your choice of tampons or pads is your choice.
