Hi, I am 40 years old, married, and have a Paragard IUD. I have had the IUD for 10 years (it's due this year to be removed) and have never had any problems with it at all. I am concerned because my husband and I had sex a few times around my ovulation time (we use withdrawal method as well) and about a week later I had a very light, light brown discharge on my panties and when I wiped after urinating. It only happened that one day. I am due for my period any day now, so technically not late. I am just worried from that discharge, cause I don't recall that in the past. Maybe it's cause I'm getting older? Maybe did have it before but never noticed? I took an early pregnancy test this morning and it was negative. I'm still a little nervous, I'm just the type of person that worries anyway and won't be completely satisfied until my period starts :). But then I am trying to be rational because what are the odds of using withdrawal method AND have an IUD becoming pregnant ? Thanks for any advice you may have...

It really could have been anything from breakthrough bleeding to irritation from your husband (no pun intended, hehe) I am on Mirena IUD, and I know sometimes, for no apparent reason, after a session, I will also have the spotting. It is random and typically has something to do with how deep my partner went, or so I assume. I think you are probably safe. Given the proximity to the end of your treatment, I would remain cautious though. Unfortunately there is no way to know FOR SURE until your period is actually missed and you take a pregnancy test, but I would say judging by the facts, you probably are safe. Good luck!

Thanks so much! That's what I'm hoping, it's just reading all sorts of things on the Internet (which I should know better lol) got me scared. Someone said that if it was 6 to 9 days after intercourse then it could be implantation bleeding... a sign of early pregancy. Ugh. Oh well, guess I will know soon enough :) thanks again.

Implantation bleeding is extrememely rare. I think researching all the possibilities is a double edged sword. It's nice knowing all the possibilities, but then again, you worry about all the possibilities. LOL. Just try to remain calm and not stress over it, or you could psyche yourself into thinking you are feeling things you are not - not to mention stress can bring a later period. Best of luck!

I have the paraguard, I have had it for a year now. I am 20 years old with a 14 month old, I didn't think it was possible to get pregnant while having it in until I found out yesterday that I am 5 weeks along and there are no findings of the fetus in the uterus so I have to have further testing done to find out where the fetus is..

Most pregnancies while having an iud in end up ectopic or tubal
