When I , an American, marry a Nigerian and reside in Nigeria, do I automatically become a citizen due to my husband?

It is not automatic. You can apply for citizenship by registering, if you are a women and marry a man who has a Nigerian citizenship. It does not work for men that marry Nigerian women.

It appears that they deny about as many applications as they approve.
