I live in a condo in Reston VA for the last four months there has been not hot water
I have been told by the staff that they are working on the problem and not having hot water is not an emergency should I get an attorney to write the condo asso a letter something I can do to

First let us know tour set up. Is there a hot water heater in your unit or is there a central hot water boiler? Does this just affect you or is the entire building out of hot water? Four months is plenty of time to either repair the system or install a new one. Before I can continue I need my questions answered, Back to you, Tom

4 months to repair a boiler is just plain ridiculous. Do you attend the Condo Board meetings, I would and state your complaint in open public. Not familiar with VA laws but in some states you can withhold your dues and assessments by putting them in an escrow account until the issue is fixed. I'd even think of suing the association management and BOD as well. No hot water makes a home uninhabitable in many states

If this were my call I'd get my neighbors together and go together and hire a "pitbull" of a lawyer. I would not only sue for the repair but damages for each unit for 4 months of mot having your units livable. Good luck and keep us informed, Tom

A day, maybe two, or even a week or two, but four months? This is not acceptable. I rarely, if ever, suggest a lawyer. But by george, I think its time.
