Assuming your pump is above ground, then it might need priming. There is a plug, or perhaps a pressure gauge, at the top of the impeller cage on your pump. Back that out, then pour in water until it overflows. The level of that water in the pump should hold steady. Assuming it does, then put the plug back in and turn on the pump. Should be going.

If the water level did not hold in the pump, then you have a leak in the well pipe, or a leaking checkvavle.

What is an impeller cage The impeller cage houses the impellers. The pipe that goes into the pump goes directly into the impeller cage. What type of pump? Above ground or submissible? How long did you let the pump run dry? Will the impeller cage hold prime when you put water in it? Back to you, Tom

So you unscrewed the plug and the impeller cage was full? If so, then your pump might be the problem.

This site gives a pretty good picture of the plug we are talking about.

water does stay in side So, now you've primed the pump and saw that the impeller cage was filled. You replaced the plug or gage and turned the pump back on. You say it runs but no water? You've done all that you can. Time to call in outside help. Good luck, Tom
