A few years from now things will have changed as economies recover or not. There is a lot to know about the immigration laws at the time you want to go, and whether you qualify in terms of things like education and job skills. I wouldn't emigrate without visiting the country first. Right now in the US the only jobs that haven't been hit hard by the recession are oil in North Dakota, a cold a desolate state, and natural gas mostly in Pennsylvania, a state that might remind you in some ways of Scotland. Some college towns survive recessions, if you can afford to live in them. Some areas of California and the Northwest that have computer companies that are doing OK. Canada has a booming economy in Calgary, also oil, but each of these places has become expensive to live in overnight. Brazil has a good economy now, but as always that can change. It wasn't too many years ago that it was the opposite. New Zealand and Australia are always pretty appealing, but I don't know what jobs you can get there right now and if they will let you in. Check out each countries website, and look under Immigration.
